A IS FOR ARETHA FRANKLIN - WHO RUN THE WORLD?

The Queen of Soul herself, there’s so much we say about the iconic Aretha Franklin.

A gifted singer and piano player from a young age, Aretha was born in Memphis, Tennessee and toured with her father’s music show, where in New York she was discovered and signed by Columbia Records.

We all know and love her classic songs such as Respect  and I Say A Little Prayer and in 1987 she was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The awards didn’t stop there with her winning her 18th Grammy Award in 2008, making her one of the most honored artists in Grammy history!

Her iconic music was one thing, but Aretha also became known as a symbol of black empowerment during the Civil Rights Movement. In 1968 Franklin was asked to perform at the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during which she paid tribute to her father's friend with a her own version of  "Precious Lord."

There is no doubt that Aretha Franklin deserves the highest R-E-S-P-E-C-T for her incredible accomplishments throughout her life and is truly an inspiration to Little Homies everywhere.
